Ride a steam train in New Jersey?...Yes you can. Located in Phillipsburg, NJ along the Delaware River, the Chinese-built steam locomotive powers a passenger train that evokes memories of a time-gone-by.
As a matter of fact, on some weekend afternoons when the wind is just right, I can hear the whistle from the RMT offices (if I keep the window open!)
After the train, which departs from downtown Phillipsburg, take time to have a cheesesteak sandwich at Joe's Steak House, South Main Street, a short walk from the train station. If you are hungry...try the hot sauce...you won't be disappointed.
While sitting at Joe's you can watch nearby NORFOLK SOUTHERN freight train action on the former-Jersey Central mainline (now the NS Lehigh Division) across the parking lot.
