By 1983, Conrail transferred its commuter operations to various state agencies. In New York, the MTA created METRO NORTH COMMUTER RAILROAD was created to operate commuter passenger service on former CONRAIL trackage in New York State over lines originally operated by the NY CENTRAL, PENN CENTRAL, NEW HAVEN, ERIE and ERIE-LACKAWANNA. In addition to trackage and passenger equipment, MNCR inherited a roster of cabooses from CONRAIL with heritage to former CNJ, PRR and other component railroads.
MNCR #067 is the former CNJ/JERSEY CENTRAL caboose #91523 and was chosen by RMT to illustrate these former CONRAIL MNCR cabooses.
